Journey to Europe
The time is here! I have finally left for Scotland and Holland! I just got off of the long long flight from Portland and have found a little Starbucks to situate myself. Let me tell you something - this Starbucks was not easy to find. I walked around for ages looking like an idiot because I could find no coffee shops and I definitely need it to keep me going. Right now it's 8:51am in the Netherlands and 11:51pm in Portland, so I'm just a little tired... not looking forward to another 12 hours being awake 🙃
Ok so for those of you that I haven't really talked to about this trip, let me give you a quick run-down. So I left today (well I guess technically yesterday... I don't even know anymore nevermind) but the 3rd of December, whenever that was. At the beginning of my trip, I'm staying in Rotterdam with basically my second parents who I haven't seen in about 10 years. I then leave on the 10th and head off to Scotland for the rest of my trip - which then concludes on the 8th of January.
So: what am I writing about now if I haven't even gotten to their house yet, you ask? Well, let me tell you. While a flight from Portland to Amsterdam is pretty easy and direct, of course it did not go that way. Due to some miscommunication between myself and my father, my flights have gotten quite confusing. He booked me my round trip to Scotland, which requires a stopover in Schipol, and it cost a crazy, ridiculous amount of money. He was under the impression that I was going to be in Scotland the entire trip. Not the plan. Sooo he called Delta/KLM and let them know that instead of needing the stopover in Amsterdam to get to Scotland, I would, in fact, just stay in Amsterdam and would need to change the flight. Not an unreasonable request if you ask me. Of course, because airlines are so amazing, they said no. Wait wait, let me rephrase that: they said yes... if we wanted to pay $1500. So that was a no.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I am sitting here in the Schipol airport Starbucks waiting for my flight to Scotland. At which point I will then pick up my bags and check them straight back in to go back to Amsterdam. Straight back. Where I am right now. But in 12 hours time. Yaaaay.
Other than that incredibly-annoying little detour I have to take, the trip has gone pretty well so far. I slept for about 3 hours of the 9.5-hour flight here, watched John Oliver, Deadpool 2, the Darkest Minds movie, and a documentary about global warming. The food was pretty bad - like normal - and we hadn't noted on the booking that I'm vegetarian so most of the meals I was handed were filled with meat which I, obviously, cannot eat. Good thing I bought myself an entire MOD pizza and a bag of mini KitKats to eat instead. I'm not sure why my stomach is hurting though... weird.
Alright, well I'm going to sign off for now and wait the 2 more hours at the gate until my flight to Edinburgh *sigh*. Wish me luck! For the future, I'm going to be putting up a new post every Monday so if you're following along just check the link on my page at the beginning of every week :) Hope you all had a great weekend and happy December!
