Stirling Visit
I know that I only just posted one a couple of days ago, but like I said, SO much going on! For the last couple of days, I have been staying in the halls at the University of Stirling (where I'll be going to university in September). On the morning of the 11th, which was a Tuesday, I went on a run for the first time since my half marathon! Quite the accomplishment, let me tell you. It was very cold but it was nice to finally get back out and clear my head before heading off to the train station for Stirling. Eloise, my friend from Hilversum who I hadn't seen since I was about 10, met me off the train and we took a taxi back to the uni. It was really exciting for me being able to actually stay at the school I'd be going to soon. After dropping off my bags in Ellie's room, she took me on a tour of the campus. I've already been on a tour before but it was cool getting all the insider information and tips like these:
- Which accommodations are the best ones to apply for
- That it's worth paying the extra $2 for the gym membership
- I should expect an initiation into the team if I join the football team - including a lot of drinking and possibly some embarrassment #yikes
- Knowing people who live in town will be a life-saver so that I can stay with them instead of staggering home drunk from some random bus
- Student discounts are the best and I should exploit that everywhere 😁
- And that nifty things from Ikea will make my room fabulous and very helpful in making use of the small space
That night Eloise had to revise for an exam so I just chilled and watched some tv and offered moral support ;)
The next morning I was supposed to be meeting up with one of the psychology lecturers at 11:30. Well, turns out I should probably put those kinds of things in my calender. Lesson learnt. There I was lazing around that morning, taking a slow walk up to the main building when I suddenly decided to just double check the email. I need to use a calendar. I really do. The meeting was actually at 11am. There I was at 11:25, already almost late for the meeting time I thought we'd set up when I'd actually missed the meeting. I frantically emailed him while running towards his office in the hopes that he might see it and see why I had just never turned up for the meeting. Anyways, long story short, I knocked on his door and he did not seem very impressed but said that he was totally fine with it - not a very good first impression 😬.
While Ellie was taking her exam later that day I did some more research on my Sri Lanka trip and everything that I would be expected to do and also started a facebook group chat with all the people I'd be going with. There are people from Canada, England, Scotland, and even New Zealand! They were all just as nervous as me so that made me feel a little better about how much I'd prepared so far.
You have been a busy you lady!! So glad you’ve got out for a run. I hope one of many.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are going to be a pro by the time you are officially student at Stirling.
Yea it has been pretty hectic! It was definitely really nice to go running, and I'm not going to lie, I was thinking about making sure I went on a run because you told me to haha 😅 I did run some more after that, but have unfortunately been sick for the last couple of days so haven't been able to keep the momentum going :(
